For your first golf lesson, confirm where you are meeting, what equipment is provided and what you are asked to wear. Tell your coach you are a beginner and what you would like to learn.
The meeting place, the clubs and what to wear
A lesson can start on the driving range, in a short-game area or on a course. Ask where to go and whether you need to check in at reception before meeting the coach.
Ask whether you can borrow clubs and say whether you play right- or left-handed, if you know. Check, too, what happens if the weather is bad. Bring whatever you have been asked to, along with clothes you can move freely in.
What you would like to learn
You might want to understand how to hold the club, get to know the short game or prepare for an introductory session with your family. Explain that goal without planning all the drills yourself.
If you have already had a go on the driving range, say so and describe what you did. Also mention any discomfort that means the session needs adapting.

The drill to repeat after the lesson
At the end of the lesson, ask which drill to repeat and how to check that you are doing it correctly. Write down the main instruction and the facilities where you can practise.
Before you leave, ask which lesson to book next and when you will be able to try your first holes. In Switzerland, the ASGI’s Start Golf programme guides beginners from their first taste of the game to the course.
